(On Braveness)
黃帝問于少俞日:有人于此，并行并立，其年之長少等也，衣之厚薄均也，卒然遇烈風(fēng)暴雨，或病或不病，或皆病[皆病:《甲乙》卷六第五作“皆死”]，或皆不病[或皆不病:《甲乙》卷六第五無此四字]，其故何也?少俞日:帝問何急?黃帝日:愿盡聞之。少俞日:春青[青;《甲乙》卷六第五作“溫”]風(fēng)，夏陽風(fēng)，秋涼風(fēng)，冬寒風(fēng)。凡此四時之風(fēng)者，其所病各不同形。
Yellow Emperor asked Shaoyu and said:"There are some people walking and standing here, they are all about the same age and the thickness of their clothes are about the same, but when they encounter the storm, they may sick or not sick, or they all die, and what is the reason?" Shaoyu said:"What do you want to know first?" Yellow Emperor said:"I hope to know all the cases." Shaoyu said: "The warm breeze dominates in spring, the summer breeze dominates in summer, the cool breeze dominates in autumn and the cold wind dominates in winter. The different winds in the various seasons will cause different diseases when affecting the body of a man."
黃帝日:四時之風(fēng)，病人如何?少俞日:黃色薄皮弱肉者，不勝春之虛風(fēng);白色薄皮弱肉者，不勝夏之虛風(fēng);青色薄皮弱肉，不勝秋之虛風(fēng);赤色薄皮弱肉，不勝冬之虛風(fēng)也。
Yellow Emperor asked: "What are the conditions when a man is affected by winds in the four seasons?" Shaoyu said:"When one's skin is yellow and thin, and his muscle is soft, he is the one whose spleen energy is deficient, and he will not be able to stand the abnormal wind (of wood) in spring; when one's skin is white and thin, and his muscle is soft, he is the one whose lung energy is deficient and he will not be able to stand the abnormal wind (of fire) in summer; when one's skin is green and thin and his muscle is soft, he is the one whose liver energy is deficient, and he will not be able to stand the abnormal wind (of
metal) in autumn; when one's skin is red and thin and his muscle is soft, he is the one whose heart energy is deficient and he will not be able to stand the abnormal wind (of water) in winter."
黃帝日:黑色不[不:《甲乙》卷六第五“不”下有“能”字]病乎?少俞日:黑色而皮厚肉堅(jiān)，固不傷于四時之風(fēng)。其皮薄而肉不堅(jiān)，色不一者，長夏至而有虛風(fēng)者，病矣。其皮厚而肌肉堅(jiān)者，長夏至而有虛風(fēng)，不病矣。其皮厚而肌肉堅(jiān)者，必重感于寒，外內(nèi)皆然，乃病。黃帝日:善。
Yellow Emperor asked:"Will people of black colour not contract disease?" Shaoyu said: "People with black and thick skin and firm muscle will surely not easily be injured by the abnormal wind of the four seasons, if ones skin is thin without definite colour and his muscle is infirm, he will contract disease in long summer when encountering the abnormal wind, people of thick skin and firm muscle will not contract disease in long summer even when the abnormal wind is encountered. But, if the one who has thick skin and firm muscle is affected by wind-cold repeatedly and is injured from inside and outside, still, he can not be exempted from disease." Yellow Emperor said: "Good."
