黃帝日:其氣之盛衰，以至其死，可得聞乎?岐伯日:人生十歲，五藏始定，血氣已通，其氣在下，故好走。二十歲，血氣始盛，肌肉方長，故好趨。三十歲，五藏大定，肌肉堅固，血脈盛滿，故好步。四十歲，五藏六腑十二經(jīng)脈，皆大盛以平定，腠理始疏，榮華頹落，發(fā)頗斑[斑:《太素》卷二《壽限》作“頒”]白，平盛不搖，故好坐。五十歲，肝氣始[始:《太平圣惠方》卷一《論形氣盛衰法》無此字]衰，肝葉始薄，膽汁始滅[滅:周本，日刻本并作“減”]，目始不明。六十歲，心氣始衰，苦憂悲，血氣懈惰，故好臥。七十歲，脾氣虛[虛:太平圣惠方》卷一《論形氣盛衰法》作“衰”]，皮膚枯。八十歲，肺氣衰，魄離[魄離:《甲乙》卷六第十二作“魂魄離散”]，故言善誤。九十歲，腎氣焦[焦:《太平圣惠方》卷一《論形氣盛衰法》“焦”下有“竭”字]，四藏[四藏:《太素》卷二《壽限》作“臟枯”]經(jīng)脈空虛。百歲，五藏皆虛，神氣皆去，形骸獨居而終矣。
Yellow Emperor asked:"Can you tell me the prosperous and declining conditions of one's energy from youth to the death?" Qibo said:"When one is ten years old, his five viscera begin to become perfect, his blood and energy are unimpeded and his energy is in the lower extremities, so, he prefers to run. When one is twenty years old, his blood and energy begin to become prosperous, his muscle is developing, so, he prefers to walk fast. When he is thirty years old, his five viscera are completely sound, his muscle is firm, his blood is prosperous and ample, so, he prefers to walk slowly. When one is fourty years old, his five
solid organs, six hollow organs and the twelve channels are well-developed and stable, his stria begins to become loose and his lustre in the complexion begins to wane, his hair on head and the temples are becoming grey, he likes to deal with things simply, and he is reluctant to act,so, he prefers to sit. When one is fifty years old, his liver energy begins to decline, his liver leaf is thin and weak, his bile is reducing gradually and his eyesight begins to become dim. When one is sixty years old, his heart energy begins to decline, he often suffers from worriment and sorrow, as the operation of his blood and energy are slow, he prefers to lie down. When one is seventy years old, his spleen energy is weak and his skin is dry. When one is eighty years old, his lung energy is declinig, his soul and inferior spirit are dispersing, so, he often has erroneous speech. When one is ninety years old, his kidney energy is withered and exhausting, all the visceral energies of his liver, heart, spleen and lung and his channel energy are emptied. When one is one hundred years old, the energies of all his viscera are emptied, and he has no more spirit, by this time, he has only the body in substance and he may die at any time."
黃帝日:其不能終壽而死者，何如?岐伯曰:其五藏皆不堅，使道不長，空外以張，喘息暴疾，又卑基墻，薄脈少血，其肉不石[石:《太素》卷二《壽限》作“實”]，數(shù)中風寒，血氣虛，脈不通，真邪相攻，亂而相引，故中壽而盡也。
Yellow Emperor asked:"Some people die early, they can not live their full span of life and why is it?" Qibo said: "When one's five viscera are all infirm, his nasolabial is short, his nostrils turn facing outside, he has rapid respiration, his forehead is low, his channel is small with few blood in it, his muscle is infirm, he often has apoplexy, his blood and energy are deficient, his channels are unimpeded, his healthy energy and evil energy are attacking each other so as the blood and energy in the body are abnormal causing the evil energy to penetrate deeply inside, people of this kind will die in his middle age."
