【說明】這個(gè)長(zhǎng)句由6個(gè)分句組成。The onset of chronic leukemia is frequently so insidious 為主句，下跟結(jié)果狀語從句 that it is accidentally discovered. 這個(gè)結(jié)果狀語從句又帶有兩個(gè)并列的由when引導(dǎo)的時(shí)間狀語從句，后一個(gè)時(shí)間狀語從句又帶有that引導(dǎo)的賓語從句，賓語從句中插入了一個(gè)while引導(dǎo)的吋間狀語從句（省略了 he is)。

4. 綜合法
在翻譯實(shí)踐中，絕對(duì)的完全順譯和倒譯是很少見的。往往是順譯之中有倒譯， 倒譯之中有順譯。而在采用分譯法時(shí)，其中也可能包含有順譯和倒譯。
例九： A number of investigators have reported the presence tn the serum of patients in the early stages of acute viral hepatitis of widely varying proportions (13%-18%) of an antigen variously referred to as the Australia antigen, the SH antigen,and the hepatitis antigen.
【說明】這雖是一個(gè)簡(jiǎn)單句，但由于修飾賓語的定語非常長(zhǎng)，無法順譯，而且定語中有的屬限制性，有的只是起修飾補(bǔ)充作用，主次輕重不同。本句的翻譯要點(diǎn)是將作為賓語的名詞presence轉(zhuǎn)換為動(dòng)詞，并選擇與其關(guān)系最密切，亦即帶限制性較大的定語of antigen中的antigen作為賓語。
【譯文】許多研究者業(yè)已報(bào)道，在早期急性病毒性肝炎患者的血清中存在著一種抗原，其所占比例十分懸殊，少則有13%，多則達(dá)18%，這種抗原或稱為澳大利亞抗原，或稱為SH抗原，或稱為肝炎杭原，命名頗為不一。
