兩術(shù)語均為“公司法”。但其用法有一些差別。一般說來， companies act用于指立法機(jī)關(guān)制定的一部具體法規(guī)[1 ] ，如英國的 《聯(lián)合王國公司法》（Companies Act of UK)等，此時companies 為復(fù)數(shù)形式。而company law則用于泛指某國或某管轄區(qū)的所有有關(guān)公司法的法規(guī)、條例、慣例、案例等[2](參見act與law的 用法區(qū)別），此時company為單數(shù)形式。
美國的公司法中的“公司” 一詞有時也用corporation來表示（更多時候用corporate)，但其規(guī)則也如上。具體法規(guī)多用 corporations act 表示 (美國歷史上曾有過一部 Corporation Act, 但它卻與公司法毫不相干，其是美國歷史上，即1661年的一部有關(guān)宣誓效忠的法規(guī)[3])，如《加利福尼亞州公司法》（Corporations Act of California) , 此時corporation習(xí)慣用復(fù)數(shù)形式；統(tǒng)稱時則為 corporation law (或 corporate law)，此時corporation 習(xí)慣用單數(shù)形式。
