前綴per-來自拉丁介副詞per，它的基本意思是through (通過），由此又引申出具有加強意義的throughout (貫穿），thoroughly(徹底），及含有貶義的to destruction (毀壞）等意思 (表示貶義的per-只出現(xiàn)在少數(shù)單詞中）。per-是原生前綴，主要與拉丁動詞詞干結合，構成動詞及其相應的名詞或形容詞。
