在單詞semiconductor (半導(dǎo)體）中含有一個(gè)比較常用的詞綴semi-。semi-本是個(gè)拉丁前綴，意為half (半）。它最早出現(xiàn)在少數(shù)拉丁借詞中；16世紀(jì)后成為英語(yǔ)的派生詞綴，使用率較高。19世紀(jì)初開(kāi)始，semi- 大量用于一些因特殊需要臨時(shí)造的詞 (noncewords)中。它主要與名詞或形容詞綴合，起修飾作用；與動(dòng)詞、副詞綴合的情況較少。semi-在派生詞中的含義除了 half 之外，還引伸出 partly (部分地），half a period of time or twice (每一半時(shí)間的，即一段時(shí)間中兩次的）等意思。
