前綴ultra-來自拉丁介詞ultra，意思為beyond (在…以外）。在現(xiàn)代英語中，被用來充當(dāng)派生前綴與名詞或形容詞相結(jié)合，其意思除了 beyond之外，還引申為excessively (極度地）等。與名詞結(jié)合，可能改變詞基單詞的詞性生成形容詞。順便指出，在意思上與前綴和很相似，但它的構(gòu)詞能力卻小得多，而且它一般只與單詞綴合。

ultramodern [ ultra- = excessively 極度地; modern a. 現(xiàn)代的→] a. excessively modern; modern to the greatest possible degree 極其現(xiàn)代化的；最新式的 / They own an apartment with ultramodern furniture. 他們有一套配有最時髦家具的公寓。
