在常用詞employee (雇員）中有個來自法語的表示人的名詞后綴-ee。-ee多充當(dāng)派生后綴，它一般加在及物動詞后面，表示行為的接受者，意思為a person who is?ed (被…者），a person to whom sth. is?ed (與某事有關(guān)的人）。有時，-ee也可以與不及物動詞結(jié)合，表示動作的執(zhí)行者，意思為a person who?s。-ee充當(dāng)原生后綴的情況較少見。注意，此類帶-ee的派生名詞， 重音總是落在末音節(jié)。

下面各舉一代表性詞例說明上述用法。

employee [employ v. 雇員；-ee=>“a person who is employed 受雇用者”→]n. a person who works for some person or firm for pay 雇員，雇工 / This large factory has 800 employees.這家大 廠有800名雇員。

inductee [induct v. 使入會，征調(diào)…入伍；-ee→]n. a person who has been or soon will be inducted, especially into the armed forces就任者；入會者；應(yīng)征入伍者/ The average inductee was reading in the sixth grade in World War I. 第一次世界大戰(zhàn)期間，普通應(yīng)征入伍者都還在六年級讀書。

mortgagee [mortgag (← mortgage) v. 抵押；-ee→] n. a person to whom sth. is mortgaged 承受抵押人，受押人/ Faust mortgaged his soul, the mortgagee was the Devil. 浮士德將自己的靈魂抵押出去，受押人是魔王。
