例3的“掩耳偷鈴”是賈政對寶玉學(xué)習(xí)《詩經(jīng)》的態(tài)度,表現(xiàn)了他滿腦子的《四書》、《五經(jīng)》、科舉、八股。短短一句話,借助這個生動妥帖的比喻,就使賈政沽名釣譽(yù)、頤指氣使的封建家長形象躍然紙上。例4的“兩溜雁翅”意即“象兩排展翅飛翔的大雁似的”,把賈母八旬大壽人席時(shí)的禮法秩序和壯觀場面活現(xiàn)出來。例5用“顯的”作喻詞,僅用 “蜂腰猿背,鶴勢螂形”這八個字就把湘云穿戴打扮成“小子的樣兒”刻畫了出來。顯然,這些暗喻的修辭效果是不容忽視的,但是兩個譯本卻采取了令人遺憾的忽視態(tài)度。
當(dāng)然,就暗喻的翻譯而言,兩譯本帶給讀者更多的不是遺憾,而是架起了溝通原作與譯文讀者的橋梁,創(chuàng)造出許多與原作如影隨形的妙語佳喻:
