Speech by H.E.Liu Xiaoming, Chinese Ambassador to the UK, at the Reception Marking the 92nd Anniversary of the People's Liberation Army: Live up to the Mission and Carry on Shoulder to Shoulder
尊敬的英國國防部國際安全與政策局局長羅杰·赫頓博士，
各位使節(jié)、各位武官、各位來賓，
女士們、先生們、朋友們：
大家晚上好！
歡迎大家出席今天的招待會(huì)，與我們共同慶祝中國人民解放軍建軍92周年。

Good evening!
First of all, a very warm welcome to the Chinese Embassy!
It is a real delight to have you all with us tonight to celebrate the 92nd anniversary of the People's Liberation Army of China (PLA).
92年來，中國人民解放軍為民族獨(dú)立、人民解放、國家富強(qiáng)建立了不朽功勛，為維護(hù)世界和平與安全做出了重要貢獻(xiàn)，取得一個(gè)又一個(gè)勝利，創(chuàng)造一個(gè)又一個(gè)輝煌。無論保家衛(wèi)國、邊疆建設(shè)、搶險(xiǎn)救災(zāi)，還是撤僑護(hù)航、執(zhí)行國際維和任務(wù)，哪里有危難，哪里就有人民解放軍；哪里有需要，哪里就有人民解放軍。
Over the past 92 years, the PLA has made indelible contribution to the independence of the nation, the liberation of the people, and the prosperity of the country. Over the past 92 years, the PLA has also made important contribution to safeguarding world peace and security. For 92 years, the PLA has won one victory after another, and made brilliant achievements in
defending the nation,
developing the border areas,
taking up rescue missions and disaster relief,
evacuating overseas Chinese who are in danger,
escorting merchant ships,
and carrying out international peacekeeping missions.
In a word, wherever there is danger and distress, the PLA is always at the forefront; Wherever they are needed, the PLA will always be there.
習(xí)近平主席指出；“世界繁榮穩(wěn)定是中國的機(jī)遇，中國發(fā)展也是世界的機(jī)遇?！敝袊冀K高舉和平、發(fā)展、合作、共贏的旗幟，在和平共處五項(xiàng)原則基礎(chǔ)上發(fā)展同各國的友好合作，推動(dòng)建設(shè)新型國際關(guān)系、構(gòu)建人類命運(yùn)共同體，維護(hù)世界和平，促進(jìn)共同發(fā)展。長期以來，中國軍隊(duì)始終堅(jiān)持“三個(gè)堅(jiān)定不移”：
As President Xi Jinping said, "Just as prosperity and stability in the world provide opportunities to China, China's development also creates opportunities for the world."
China has always held high the banner of peace, development and win-win cooperation.
China is committed to developing friendly relations with all countries under the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence.
China is ready to work with other countries to build a new type of international relations and a community with a shared future for mankind.
Our aim is to safeguard world peace and promote common development.
In this spirit, the PLA stays committed to the following three goals.
一是堅(jiān)定不移地秉持走和平發(fā)展道路。中華民族歷來是愛好和平的民族，中國人民熱愛和平、渴望和平，更深知戰(zhàn)爭帶來的災(zāi)難和痛苦。中國軍隊(duì)始終傳承中國傳統(tǒng)文化的和平基因，始終服從服務(wù)于國家和平發(fā)展戰(zhàn)略，始終奉行防御性國防政策。
First, the PLA is committed to the path of peaceful development.
China is a peace-loving nation. As victims of the devastation and scourge of many wars, the people of China love peace and long for peace.
The PLA is born of the peaceful tradition of Chinese culture. It serves the national strategy of peaceful development, and follows a defense policy that is defensive in nature.
二是堅(jiān)定不移地捍衛(wèi)國家主權(quán)、安全、發(fā)展利益。中國近代史深刻昭示，沒有強(qiáng)大國防和強(qiáng)大軍隊(duì)，國家就要遭受外來侵略和欺凌，就不可能實(shí)現(xiàn)國家發(fā)展和繁榮。中國從來沒有欺負(fù)誰、掠奪誰，當(dāng)然也不會(huì)允許任何人欺負(fù)和掠奪。中國人民和軍隊(duì)將堅(jiān)決捍衛(wèi)中國主權(quán)、安全和發(fā)展利益，堅(jiān)決反對任何損害中國核心利益的圖謀。
Second, the PLA is committed to safeguarding national sovereignty, security and development interests.
A profound lesson from China's modern history is that, without strong defence and a capable military, a nation would fall victim to foreign invasion and bullying, and would not be able to achieve national development and prosperity.
China has never bullied or preyed on others, and China refuses to be bullied or preyed on by anyone. The Chinese people and the PLA will remain committed to safeguarding China's sovereignty, security and development interests, and China firmly opposes any attempt to harm China's core interests.
