(The Yin and Yang of Human Body Relate to Sun and Moon)

黃帝日:余聞天為陽(yáng)，地為陰，日為陽(yáng)，月為陰，其合之于人奈何?岐伯日:腰以上為天，腰以下為地，故天為陽(yáng)，地為陰。故足之十二經(jīng)脈，以應(yīng)十二月，月生于水，故在下者為陰;手之十指，以應(yīng)十日，日主火[日主火:按“主”字系“生于”二字之誤]，故在上者為陽(yáng)。

Yellow Emperor asked: "I am told that heaven is Yang and the earth is Yin; the sun is Yang and the moon is Yin. What is the condition when Yin and Yang coordinate with the human body?" Qibo said: "The part of human body which is above the loins is called heaven, the purt which is below the loins is called earth, so, the heaven belongs to Yang and the earth belongs to Yin. The twelve channels of feet (the three Yin and three Yang channels in the left and right feet) correspond with the twelve months of the duodecimal cycle, as the moon which is the essence of Yin creates water, so, all things below are called Yin. The ten fingers of two hands correspond with the ten days of the decimal cycle, as the sun which is the essence of Yang creates fire, so, all things above are called Yang."

黃帝曰:合之于脈奈何?”岐伯曰:寅者，正月之生陽(yáng)也，主左足之少陽(yáng);未者六月，主右足之少陽(yáng)。卯者二月，主左足之太陽(yáng);午者五月，主右足之太陽(yáng)。辰者三月，主左足之陽(yáng)明;巳已者四月，主右足之陽(yáng)明;此兩陽(yáng)合于前，故日陽(yáng)明。申者，七月之生陰也，主右足之少陰;丑者十二月，主左足之少陰。西者八月，主右足之太陰;子者十一月，主左足之太陰;戌者九月，主右足之厥陰;亥者十月，主左足之厥陰。此兩陰交盡，故曰厥陰。

Yellow Emperor saked: "What are the conditions when the twelve months and the ten days coordinate with the channels?" Qibo said: "The first lunar month is the month of Yin, and it is the time for the Yang energy to generate, as Yang appears in the left first and then in the right, thus, the first lunar month dominates the Shaoyang Channal of the left foot; the sixth lunar month is the month of Wei, it dominates the Shaoyang Channel of the right foot. The second lunar month is the month of Mao, it dominates the Taiyang Channel of the left foot; the fifth lunar month is the month of Wu,it dominates the Taiyang Channel of the right foot. The third lunar month is the month of Chen, it dominates the Yangming Channel of the left foot; the fourth lunar month is the month of Si, it dominates the Yangming Channel of the right foot. The third and the fourth lunar months are between Shaoyang and Taiyang, they are bright in the both Yang, so, they are called Yangming. The seventh lunar month is the month of Shen, it is the time when the Yin energy generates, as the Yin energy appears in the right first and then in the left, so, the seventh lunar month dominates the Shaoyin Channel of the right foot; the twelfth lunar month is the month of Chou, it dominates the Shaoyin Channel of the left foot. The eigth lunar month is the month of You, it dominates the Taiying Channel of the right foot; the eleventh lunar month is the month of Zi, it dominates the Taiyin Channel of the left foot. The ninth lunar month is the month of Xu, it dominates the Jueyin Channel of the right foot; the tenth lunar month is the month of Hai, it dominates the Jueyin Channel of the left foot. The ninth and the tenth lunar months are the terminals of Yin, so, they are called Jueyin.

甲主左手之少陽(yáng)，己主右手之少陽(yáng)。乙主左手之太陽(yáng)，戊主右手之太陽(yáng)。丙主左手之陽(yáng)明，丁主右手之陽(yáng)明。此兩火并合，故為陽(yáng)陰。庚主右手之少陰，癸主左手之少陰。辛主右手之太陰，壬主左手之太陰。

"In the day of Jia, it dominates the Shaoyang Channel of the left hand, in the day of Ji, it dominates the Shaoyang Channel of the right hand. In the day of Yi, it dominates the Taiyang Channel of the left hand, in the day of Wu, it dominates the Taiyang Channel of the right hand. In the day of Bing, it dominates the Yangming Channel of the left hand, in the day of Ding, it dominates the Yangming Channel of the right hand. The Bing and Ding days are bright in the both fires, so, they are called Yangming. In the day of Geng, it dominates the Shaoyin Channel of the right hand, in the day of Gui, it dominates the Shaoyin Channel of the left hand. In the day of Xin, it dominates the Taiyin Channel of the right hand, in the day of Ren, it dominates the Taiyin Channel of the left hand.
