在superman (超人）中有個很常用的前綴super-，其前身是拉丁介副詞super，意為above或over (在…之上）。在英語中， super-既可以作為原生前綴存在拉丁借詞中，也可以作為派生前綴跟名詞、形容詞及動詞相綴合，構(gòu)成許多常用詞。在與單詞結(jié)合時，的含義除了 above之外，還引申出beyond (超）； more that (多）;excessive (過分）等意思。與結(jié)合的單詞， 多是拉丁借詞，本族語詞較少。這些派生詞都出現(xiàn)在17世紀。 此外，在構(gòu)詞過程，派生前綴—般不改變詞基單詞的詞性。

先介紹原生詞綴與詞根構(gòu)成的幾個有代表性的常用詞。

superficial [ super- = above 在…之上；fici = face 面；-al = being “being above the face 在面上”→]a. ①of or on the surface 表面的 / His burns were superficial and soon healed. 他只是表面燒傷，很快就好了。②not thorough; shallow膚淺的；淺薄的 / Girls used to receive only a superficial education. 過去女孩子往往只受到粗淺的教育。

superficies n. 表面；外觀，外表 

superficiality n. 表面性；膚淺，淺薄

superfluous [super- = over 超；flu = to flow 流；-ous = -ing=>“flowing over 溢出的”→]a . more than is needed; surplus, unnecessary 過剩的；多余的，不必要的/ In writing telegram it pays to omit superfluous words. 擬電報稿時，將不必要的字眼 刪去比較合算。
