拉丁后綴-ar只能加綴在拉丁名詞詞根后面，構(gòu)成原生形容詞或名詞。1)當它只當形容詞后綴時，意思為of?（…的），like (像…的）或having the nature of?（有…性質(zhì)的）。2)充當名詞后綴時，意為one that is connected with?，即表不“與…有關(guān)的人或物”。-ar還可與其他后綴組成-ular，-icular等復合形式。

以下先介紹幾個有代表性的由-ar構(gòu)成的形容詞。

lunar [ lun = the moon 月亮；-ar → ] a. ① of the moon 月的，太陽的/They brought back some lunar rock samples. 他們帶回一些月球上的巖石標本。②like the moon似月的/ He appeared and stood in the lunar glow of faraway street lights. 他出現(xiàn)在遠處的路燈底下，好似站在朦朧的月光之中。

nuclear [ nucle = nucleus 核，原子核；-ar → ] a. of or having to do with a nucleus; atomic 核的；原子核的 / The use of nuclear weapons will destroy the whole world. 使用核武器將會毀滅整個世界。

familiar [famili = family 親屬;-ar =>“l(fā)ike one's own family 像自己親屬般的”→] a. well known; well acquainted 熟悉的；通曉的 / He is familiar with English and French.他通曉英語和法語。
