在將原文漢譯時，有時譯文的意思顯得不夠明確清晰，或者文理欠通， 這時往往需要增添一些原文中無其形而有其義的詞語，以彌補上述缺陷。但是詞語的增添絕不能無中生有，而必須符合原文所表達的意思。詞語的增添是為了補其不足，是在忠實于原文的基礎上使譯文更為完整，明確和通順。舉例如下：

[原譯]近幾年來，激光取得了很大的進展。
[改譯]近幾年來，對激光的研究取得了很大的進展。
[說明]激光本身不可能取得進展，是人們對激光的研究取得了很大進展。

2. A leucopenia is the usual finding.
[原譯]白細胞減少是通常的發(fā)現(xiàn)。
[改譯]檢查結(jié)果往往發(fā)現(xiàn)白細胞減少。
[說明]finding在醫(yī)學上一般指“檢査所見”。

3. From the evaporation of water people know that liquid can turn into gases under certain condition.
[原譯] 根據(jù)水的蒸發(fā)，人們知道液體在一定條件下能轉(zhuǎn)變成氣體。
[改譯] 根據(jù)水的蒸發(fā)現(xiàn)象，人們知道液體在一定的條件下能轉(zhuǎn)變成氣體。

4. We can agree completely with Bezold.
[原譯] 我們可以完全同意Bezold氏，
[改譯] 我們可以完全同意Bezold氏的意見。

5. There is no evidence that the patient's tumour is malignant.
[原譯] 沒有病人的腫瘤是惡性的證據(jù)。
[改譯] 沒有證據(jù)表明病人的腫瘤是惡性的。

6. These liver function studies are useful in diagnosis of liver disease as a possible cause of bleeding.
[原譯] 這些肝功能試驗有助于診斷出血由肝臟疾病所致。
[改譯] 這些肝功能試驗有助于診斷出血是否由肝臟疾病所致。
