所謂的形容詞作前置定語(yǔ)就是指形容詞作定語(yǔ)放在被修飾的名詞之前，故稱之為前置定語(yǔ)。

1.譯為"的”字結(jié)構(gòu)

形容詞作前置定語(yǔ)修飾名詞時(shí)，一般情況下可譯為漢語(yǔ)的“的”字結(jié)構(gòu)，在譯文中仍然起定語(yǔ)的作用。如：

* The trains will literally float over the landscape levitated by powerful electromagnets cooled in liquid helium.

這種火車借助液氦冷卻的極強(qiáng)的電磁鐵懸起，在田野上飄馳。

* Like Jupiter and Saturn, but unlike its near-twin nextdoor neighbor, Uranus, Neptune appears to have distinct weather patterns.

海王星和它的近似孿生的隔壁鄰居天王星不一樣，卻像木星和土星，似乎有獨(dú)特的氣象模式。

2. 譯為短語(yǔ)

形容詞作前置定語(yǔ)，除了直譯為漢語(yǔ)的“的”字結(jié)構(gòu)之外，許多情況下不能譯出“的”字，而常常與被修飾的名詞一起譯成ー個(gè)約定俗成的短語(yǔ)，尤其在科技英語(yǔ)中， 常常應(yīng)譯為特定的專業(yè)技術(shù)術(shù)語(yǔ)。如：

* If the rate of the backward reaction becomes significant, the rate laws become more complex.

若逆反應(yīng)的速度變大，反應(yīng)速度的規(guī)律就會(huì)變得更復(fù)雜。

* The average current serves as a useful criterion in determining the energy transfer.

平均電流應(yīng)作為確定能量轉(zhuǎn)換的ー個(gè)有用的標(biāo)準(zhǔn)。

* Contact between copper and aluminum sets up corrosive action.

銅與鋁的接觸引起腐蝕作用。
