【原文】The risk of loss of or damage to the goods, as well as the obligation to bear the costs relating to the goods,
passes from the seller to the buyer when the seller has fulfilled this obligation to deliver the goods.
【譯文】當(dāng)賣(mài)方履行完運(yùn)貨的責(zé)任，貨物的丟失或損壞，以及承受與貨物相關(guān)的費(fèi)用的責(zé)任便從賣(mài)方轉(zhuǎn)移到了買(mǎi)方。
【賞析】該例使用了時(shí)間狀語(yǔ)從句。漢語(yǔ)中常前置時(shí)間狀語(yǔ)從句，因此翻譯時(shí)應(yīng)調(diào)整語(yǔ)序。

【原文】Different persons will be held liable for the claim lodged as different causes of loss lead to different ranges of
responsibility.
【譯文】由于造成損失的原因不同，責(zé)任范圍不同，因此索賠對(duì)象也隨之不同。
【賞析】該例使用了后置原因狀語(yǔ)從句。漢語(yǔ)表達(dá)習(xí)慣采用“因?yàn)椤浴钡谋硎龇绞?，因此翻譯時(shí)調(diào)整語(yǔ)序，并在表述結(jié)果時(shí)添加“因此”。

【原文】The buyers agrees to buy from the seller and the seller agrees to sell to the buyer equipment, materials design and technical documentations, license and know-how and technical services for a plant with a 54,000kW phosphorus electric furnace which has a production capacity of 30，000 metric tons of yellow phosphorus per year and 70,000 metric tons of sodium tripolyphosphate per year with phosphate rock as raw material using the process stipulated in article 10.1 to the contract.
【譯文】買(mǎi)方同意向賣(mài)方購(gòu)買(mǎi)，賣(mài)方同意向買(mǎi)方出售擁有54 000千瓦黃磷電爐一座的工廠所需要的設(shè)備、材料設(shè)計(jì)以及技術(shù)文件、專(zhuān)利使用權(quán)、專(zhuān)利技術(shù)和技術(shù)服務(wù)，以便使該廠以磷酸鹽巖為原料，采用本合同第十條第一款所規(guī)定之工藝，使其年生產(chǎn)能力達(dá)到黃磷3萬(wàn)噸、三聚鱗酸鈉7萬(wàn)噸。
【賞析】上例是合同中常見(jiàn)的長(zhǎng)句，畫(huà)線部分為which引導(dǎo)的定語(yǔ)從句，先行詞是plant。按照中文習(xí)慣，定語(yǔ)一般放在所修飾的名詞前面，因此，翻譯定語(yǔ)從句時(shí),常常將 定語(yǔ)從句譯為前置定語(yǔ)“……的”。但本句定語(yǔ)部分非常長(zhǎng)，是限定說(shuō)明所約定的工廠的 具體生產(chǎn)能力，如果全部譯為前置定語(yǔ),會(huì)讓人不知所云。因此翻譯時(shí)可采用譯文例文的 方式譯為目的狀語(yǔ)從句。
