黃帝曰:凡此四海者，何利何害?何生何敗?岐伯曰:得順者生，得逆者敗;知調(diào)者利，不知調(diào)者害。

Yellow Emperor asked: "As for the four seas of human body, what treatment will cause it to become beneficial? What treatment will cause it to become harmful? How to make its viability to become prosperous and what will cause it to decline?" Qibo said: "When one treats with the way which is agreeable with the physiological law, the viability of the four seas in the human body will be prosperous, when one treats against it, it will cause decline; when one knows how to recuperate the four seas, it will benefit the body, otherwise, it will injure the body."

黃帝日:四海逆順奈何?岐伯曰:氣海有余者，氣滿胸中，悗[悗:《太素》卷五《四系合》作“急”]息面赤;氣海不足，則氣少不足以言。血海有余，則常想其身大，怫然不知其所病;血海不足[血海不足:《甲乙》卷一第八“不足”上無“血?！倍謁，亦常想其身小，狹然不知其所病。水谷之海有余，則腹?jié)M;水谷之海不足，則饑不受谷食。髓海有余，則輕勁多力，自過其度;髓海不足，則腦轉(zhuǎn)耳鳴，脛痠眩冒，目無所見，懈息安臥。

Yellow Emperor asked: "What is the adverse and agreeable conditions of the four seas?" Qibo answered:"When the sea of energy is having a surplus, it shows the evil energy is over-abundant, one will have fullness of breath in the chest, rapid respiration and red complexion; when it is insufficient, one will be short of breath and incapable to talk. When the sea of blood is having a surplus due to the plentiness of blood and the overabundance of channel energy, the patient will imagine his body is becoming gigantic, he seems to have no disease although he is having a melancholic mood; when the sea of blood is insufficient, he will often feel his body is becoming small and light, he appears to have no disease although he has the mood of taking things too hard. When the sea of water and cereals is having a surplus, it will cause one to have abdominal distention, when the sea of water and cereals are insufficient, one will feel hungry but can hardly take in food. When the sea of marrow is having a surplus, it will cause one to feel light and vigorous in the body, and he can endure unusually hard work; when the sea of marrow is insufficient, one's brain will feel like turning and he will have the syndromes of tinnitus, sore legs, dizziness, seeing nothing, slothful and sleepiness."

黃帝日:余已聞逆順，調(diào)之奈何?岐伯日:審守其輸而調(diào)其虛實(shí)，無犯其害，順者得復(fù)，逆者必敗。黃帝日:善。

Yellow Emperor said:"Now I have known the adverse and agreeable conditions of the four seas, but how to treat it?" Qibo said:"One must know the upper and lower acupoints communicating the four seas and adjusts by invigorating the asthenia, and purging the thenia to avoid the mistake of purging asthenia and invigorating sthenia. When one can abide by this law, the patient will be healthy, otherwise, the disease will become deteriorative." Yellow Emperor said: "Good."
