在常用詞sympathy和system中有兩個(gè)前綴sym-和sy-，它們都是希臘前綴syn-的異體。syn-原是個(gè)希臘的介副詞，意思為with (與）或together (共）。作為原生詞綴，syn-只跟希臘詞根相綴合，并受詞根首字母的同化作用，生出syl-（出現(xiàn)在1前）， sym-(出現(xiàn)在唇輔音b，p，m前），和sy- (出現(xiàn)在s前）三個(gè)異體。但是，在現(xiàn)代英語(yǔ)中，syn-和sym-也作為派生詞綴構(gòu)成科技術(shù)語(yǔ)。

下面是以syn-開(kāi)頭的幾個(gè)原生詞：

syndrome [ syn- = with 與；drom = to run 跑；-e=>“sth. that runs with sth. else 與另物跑在一塊的事物”→]n. group of signs that occur together and indicate an illness, etc. 綜合病癥；同時(shí)存在的癥狀/ The delusion of being prosecuted is one aspect of the paranoid's syndrome. 迫害妄想是偏執(zhí)狂綜合病癥的一種 表現(xiàn)。

synonymous [ syn- = together 共; onym = name 名; -ous a , = having 有…的=>“having a name together with sth. else 與它物有同一名字的”→]a. having the same or nearly the same meaning 同義的 / Little and small are synonymous. Little 和 small是同義的。
