英語高級口譯筆試漢譯英全真試題大致可分為四類，包括政治類、經(jīng)濟(jì)類、科教類、旅游類。下面分別對這四類試題的特點(diǎn)進(jìn)行閘述：

一、政治類試題

此類試題文章的主題主要涉及國際政治、外交關(guān)系、臺灣問題。與臺灣問題有關(guān)的試題文章(2000.3)是廖承志同志于1982年8月24日寫給蔣經(jīng)國的一封信。其特點(diǎn)是除了使用政治術(shù)語,如“祖國和平統(tǒng)一"(peaceful reunification of the motherland)、“長期共存、互相監(jiān)督"(long-term coexistence, mutual supervision)、“振興中華”(to rejuvenate China)外,還使用了很多成語，如“安居樂業(yè)”(to live and work in peace and contentment)、“各得其所"(be in one's proper place/to have a role to play)、“歲月不居"(time and tide wait for no man)。這就要求考生通過學(xué)習(xí)《高級翻譯教程》Unit 11中的兩篇課文《新形勢下發(fā)展兩岸關(guān)系的指導(dǎo)方針》(上)(下)和《中國日報(bào)》(China Daily)刊發(fā)的相關(guān)文章來熟悉常用的政治術(shù)語的英語表達(dá)法，唯如此才能迅速翻譯成文。下面我們對此信的英詳加以說明：

“祖國和平統(tǒng)一，乃千秋功業(yè)”的難點(diǎn)在“乃千秋功業(yè)”,句中“乃”系“是”之意，“千秋功業(yè)”中的“功業(yè)”系“功勛事業(yè)”,可譯為“achievement”或“great contribution”,“千秋”泛指很長的時(shí)間,系指千秋萬代,可詳為“from generation to generation”，切不可像有些考生那樣硬譯為“for one thousand autumns”。所以此句可譯為“To achieve peaceful reunification of the motherland is an achievement from generation to generation”。“臺灣終必回歸祖國”中的“終必”就是“必然會”,可譯為“is bound to”。“回歸祖國”通?？勺g為“return to the motherland"。所以此句可譯為“Taiwan is bound to return to the motherland.”“早日解決對各方有利”是承上句，可譯為“The early settlement of Taiwan question will be good for all. "“臺灣同胞可安居樂業(yè)”，按約定俗成的譯法可譯為:“Taiwan compatriots will live and work in peace and contentment.”至于“兩岸各族人民可解骨肉分離之痛”,考生首先要知道“各族”就是“各民族”英譯"all ethnic groups",面“各族人民”就是“各民族人民”?？勺g為“people of all ethnic groups”。“骨肉分離”就是“骨肉同胞分離”。“骨肉同胞”可譯為“flesh and blood”。所以上句可譯為:“People of all ethnic groups on both sides of Taiwan straits will get rid of the pains of separation from the same flesh and blood."“在臺諸前輩及大陸去臺人員亦可各得其所”,考生若掌握了成語詳法就能將其譯為:“In Taiwan, both each old generation and personnel from the mainland will have a role to play."接下來的一句是“且有利于亞太地區(qū)局勢穩(wěn)定和世界和平”。若“有利于”后跟名詞,即“be conducive to”,就可將此句譯為“it will also be conducive to the stable situation in Asia-Pacific region and the world peace”。但注意若“有利于”后跟動詞，即 to help (to) do,就可將此句譯為“it will help maintain the stability in Asia-Pacific region and the world peace”?！爱?dāng)今國際風(fēng)云變幻莫測”可詳為“Current international situation is capricious/ changeable and unfathomable，”接下來的“歲月不居,來日苦短,夜長夢多,時(shí)不我與”是漢譯成語,可采用意譯或借譯的方法,所以可譯為:"Time and tide wait for no man. There will be no plenty of time left. A long delay means trouble.”“試為貴黨計(jì)，如能依時(shí)順勢，負(fù)起歷史責(zé)任,毅然和談,達(dá)成國家統(tǒng)一?！笨稍敒椤癝uppose that if your party would shoulder the historical responsibility in the light of the situation at the time, and resolve to hold a peace talk for our peaceful reunification of the country."“則兩黨長期共存,互相監(jiān)督,共圖振興中華之大業(yè)?！边@句話要求考生能將黨的統(tǒng)戰(zhàn)“八字方針”背出,而且要分別譯出“兩黨”的全名。以使人知曉。因此,全句可譯為“The Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Kuomintang (KMT) of China will implement jointly the policy of long-term coexistence and mutual supervision, striving together for rejuvenating China."
