省詞法就是原文中需要而譯文中不需要的單詞、詞組等在翻譯過(guò)程中加以省略。省詞法一般是出于譯文語(yǔ)法和習(xí)慣表達(dá)法的需要。

【原文1】He was thin and haggard and he Looked miserable.

【分析】本句漢譯時(shí)省略了作主語(yǔ)的人稱代詞。

【譯文】他消瘦而憔捽，（……）看上去一副可憐相。

【原文2】She laid her hand lightly on his aim as if to thank him for it.

【分析】本句漢譯時(shí)省略了作賓語(yǔ)的代詞。

【譯文】她輕輕地把手放在他的胳膊上，好像表示感謝（……）。

【原文3】 He shrugged his shoulders, shook his head，cast up his eyes, but said nothing.

【分析】本句漢譯時(shí)省略了三個(gè)物主代詞。

【譯文】他聳聳（……）肩，搖搖（……）頭，（……）兩眼看天，一句話也沒(méi)說(shuō)。

【原文4】For two weeks, he had been studying the house，looking at its rooms, its electric wiring, its path and its garden.

【分析】本句漢譯時(shí)省略了四個(gè)物主代詞。

【譯文】?jī)芍芤詠?lái)，他一直注意現(xiàn)察房子的情況，查看（……）各個(gè)房間，留心（……）電線的走向、（……）通道和（……）花園的布局。

【原文5】 The city has a dense manufacturing population.

【分析】本句漢譯時(shí)省略了不定冠詞“a”。

【譯文】這個(gè)城市工業(yè)人口密集。

【原文6】The earth is round.

【分析】本句漢譯時(shí)省略了表示獨(dú)ー無(wú)二事物的定冠詞 “The”。

【譯文】地球是圓的。
