“貴州”故名思義，意即“寶貴的地方”。把漢字“貴”拆開，可以解讀為“中國的一個寶貝”。回顧歷史，兩千多年前，穿越云貴高原的“南方絲綢之路”、“茶馬古道”，將產自中國的絲綢、茶葉源源不斷運往南亞大陸，成為當時中國同世界互聯(lián)互通的重要通道。
今天的貴州，依然是中國的“一方寶地”。近年來，貴州依托“一帶一路”連接線的區(qū)位優(yōu)勢，成為中國新一輪改革開放的排頭兵，走出了一條民族團結、生態(tài)優(yōu)先、創(chuàng)新發(fā)展的新路。我認為，貴州之“貴”，集中體現(xiàn)在以下四個方面：
Guizhou in the Chinese language means "precious province". The character "Gui" is composed of elements that are interpreted as "a treasure of China". Guizhou has certainly lived up to its name.
Two thousand years ago, the "Southern Silk Road" and the "Ancient Tea-Horse Trail" on the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau were important routes connecting China with the rest of the world. Via these routes, Chinese silk and tea found their way into South Asian subcontinent.
Today, this "precious province" is leveraging its strategic location on the Belt and Road routes.
It has become a pioneer in China's new round of reform and opening up.
It is where different ethnic groups live in harmony.
It gives priority to the preservation of the eco-system.
And its development is driven by innovation.
Let me give you four reasons why Guizhou is "precious":
首先，貴州是改革開放的縮影。推動區(qū)域協(xié)調發(fā)展，是中國深化改革、擴大開放的重要目標之一。隨著中國全方位對外開放和“一帶一路”建設向縱深發(fā)展，貴州獨特優(yōu)勢和發(fā)展?jié)撃懿粩噌尫?。近年來，貴州綜合實力顯著提升，經濟增速連續(xù)5年位居中國第二，2017年居全國第一位，GDP增速達10.2%。
第二，貴州是精準扶貧的典范。作為中國脫貧攻堅戰(zhàn)的主戰(zhàn)場，貴州實施“大扶貧戰(zhàn)略行動”，創(chuàng)新精準扶貧機制和舉措，脫貧成效位居中國各省前列。2012年至2017年，貴州貧困人口減少近800萬，相當于整個大倫敦地區(qū)的人口。
First, Guizhou is an epitome of China's reform and opening up.
An important goal of deeper reform and further open-up in China is promoting coordinated development between different regions. Guizhou's achievements testify to the attainment of this goal.
As China opens up on all fronts and deepens the Belt and Road development, Guizhou is showing unique strengths and huge potential. In recent years, Guizhou has significantly improved its comprehensive strengths. It had been one of the top two fastest growing provinces in China for five years in a row. And in 2017 it led the country in GDP growth rate with an increase of 10.2% .
Second, Guizhou is a model for targeted poverty alleviation.
Guizhou is the main battlefield in China's fight against poverty. To win this battle, Guizhou has launched a massive strategic plan to reduce poverty. This includes new mechanisms and measures to achieve targeted poverty alleviation.
The result is encouraging. Guizhou has become one of the most successful provinces in poverty reduction. From 2012 to 2017, nearly eight million people, about the size of Greater London's population, have been lifted out of poverty.
