When asked whether the DPRK Supreme Leader could stay on in power, Secretary of State Pompeo said that the US will have to provide security assurances to be sure. Do you have any comments?
答：我們注意到蓬佩奧國(guó)務(wù)卿關(guān)于應(yīng)當(dāng)給予朝方安全保證的上述表態(tài)，對(duì)此予以積極評(píng)價(jià)。中方一向主張各方通過(guò)對(duì)話(huà)推進(jìn)半島問(wèn)題政治解決進(jìn)程，均衡解決各方合理關(guān)切，特別是應(yīng)當(dāng)在推進(jìn)半島無(wú)核化進(jìn)程中解決朝方自身正當(dāng)安全關(guān)切，這樣有利于共同開(kāi)辟半島和本地區(qū)長(zhǎng)治久安的未來(lái)。
大家也注意到，令人欣慰的是，在有關(guān)各方共同努力下，當(dāng)前半島對(duì)話(huà)緩和勢(shì)頭正在進(jìn)一步得到鞏固，朝著有利于推動(dòng)半島問(wèn)題政治解決的方向發(fā)展。中方鼓勵(lì)所有有關(guān)各方繼續(xù)相向而行，多說(shuō)一些有利于展示善意、緩和緊張的話(huà)，繼續(xù)多做一些有利于促進(jìn)對(duì)話(huà)、增進(jìn)互信的事。

A: We have noted these remarks made by Secretary of State Pompeo on giving the DPRK security guarantees, and we think of them positively. China maintains that all parties shall engage in dialogue to move forward the political settlement of the Korean Peninsula issue and address their legitimate concerns in a balanced way. In particular, the legitimate security concerns of the DPRK side need to be accounted for while pushing forward the Peninsula denuclearization. That is conducive to the collective efforts to forge enduring peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and in the region.
I believe all of you have noticed the encouraging development that under the concerted efforts of all relevant parties, the momentum for dialogue and détente has been further consolidated, and more steps are being made towards the political settlement of the Korean Peninsula issue. China encourages all relevant parties to work towards the same direction, say more words to show goodwill and alleviate tension, and do more things to promote dialogue and enhance mutual trust.
Due to scheduling reasons, tomorrow's regular press conference (Tuesday, May 15) will start at 2 p.m. at the same venue.
