Speech by H.E. Ambassador Liu Xiaoming at the Chinese for Labour Gala Chinese New Year Banquet 2019: Put People First and Deliver Benefits to the People
尊敬的英國(guó)工黨領(lǐng)袖科爾賓先生，
尊敬的英國(guó)華人工黨主席梁辛尼先生，
尊敬的英國(guó)工黨各位影閣大臣，
女士們，先生們：
大家晚上好！
很高興出席華人工黨舉辦的春節(jié)晚宴，與大家共慶農(nóng)歷己亥豬年春節(jié)。這是我今年參加的第26場(chǎng)春慶活動(dòng)。連日來，我親眼見證了春節(jié)已成為中英兩國(guó)人民的節(jié)日，深切感受到中英友好日益深入人心。我注意到，科爾賓先生日前發(fā)表了熱情洋溢的拜年視頻，受到英國(guó)及全球華人的好評(píng)。

Good evening!
It is a real delight to join you at the Chinese for Labour Gala Chinese New Year Banquet to celebrate the Year of the Pig.
This is the 26th Chinese New Year celebration that I have attended this year. Over the past weeks, I was glad to see the Chinese New Year becoming a festival of both the Chinese and British people. This is a vivid demonstration of the ever-stronger popular support for China-UK friendship.
I watched the video message sent by Mr. Corbyn early this month, wishing Chinese people a happy Chinese New Year. The message has been warmly received by the Chinese communities in the UK and across the world.
今年是新中國(guó)成立70周年，也是中英建立代辦級(jí)外交關(guān)系65周年?；仡櫄v史，正是在工黨執(zhí)政時(shí)期，中英關(guān)系實(shí)現(xiàn)了三次跨越：一是英國(guó)在新中國(guó)成立3個(gè)月即予外交承認(rèn)，成為最早承認(rèn)新中國(guó)的西方大國(guó)；二是實(shí)現(xiàn)香港順利回歸，使中英關(guān)系卸下歷史包袱輕裝前進(jìn)；三是英國(guó)在歐盟國(guó)家中率先與中國(guó)建立全面戰(zhàn)略伙伴關(guān)系。我謹(jǐn)此對(duì)工黨為中英關(guān)系發(fā)展做出的貢獻(xiàn)表示贊賞和感謝。
This year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. It is also the 65th anniversary of the establishment of China-UK diplomatic relationship at the level of chargé d'affaire.
In the past 70 years, it was when the Labour Party was in office that China and the UK achieved three major leaps in our relations:
The first leap was the diplomatic recognition of the People's Republic of China three months after its founding. The UK was the first major Western country to do so;
The second leap was Hong Kong's return to China. This enabled our two countries to shed the burden of history and move on;
The third leap was the establishment of China-UK comprehensive strategic partnership, which was the very first between China and an EU member state.
I wish to take this opportunity to express my appreciation and thanks to the Labour Party for your contribution to the development of China-UK relations.
