(On Channels)

太陽(yáng)所謂腫腰[柯校云:“‘腫腰’當(dāng)云‘腰腫?”腫痛者，正月太陽(yáng)[于鬯說(shuō):“‘太陽(yáng)’二字疑涉下衍”]寅，寅太陽(yáng)也，正月陽(yáng)氣出在[明抄本“在”作“于”]上，而陰氣盛，陽(yáng)未得自次也，故腫腰雕痛也。病偏虛為跛[《太素》卷八《經(jīng)脈病解》“偏”上無(wú)“病”字]者，正月陽(yáng)氣凍[讀本，趙本，吳本“凍”并作“東”]解地氣而出也，所謂偏虛者，冬寒頗有不足者，故偏虛為跛也。所謂強(qiáng)上引背[《太素》無(wú)“引背”二字]者，陽(yáng)氣大上而爭(zhēng)，故強(qiáng)上也。所謂耳鳴者，陽(yáng)氣萬(wàn)物[張文虎說(shuō):“‘萬(wàn)物’二字衍”]盛上而躍，故耳嗚也。所謂甚則狂巔疾者[《圖經(jīng)》注引無(wú)“甚則”二字]，陽(yáng)盡在上，而陰氣從下，下虛上實(shí)，故狂巔疾也，所謂浮為聾者，皆在氣也。所謂入中為痛者，陽(yáng)盛已衰，故為瘩也。內(nèi)奪而厥，則為瘠俳，此腎虛也。少陰不至[《太素》“不至”下重“少陰不至”四字]者，厥也。

In Taiyang channel, there is the disease of swelling and distention of the loins and pain of the buttock. This is because the first (lunar) month of the year is Yin, and the month of Yin belongs to Taiyang. In the first month, the Yang energy begins to emerge from above, while the cold energy of Yin is still prosperous, and the Yang energy can not expand itself freely without impediment yet, so, it causes pain in the loins and the buttock.

The condition of lameness due to the partial asthenic of Yang energy in the body is: when the Yang energy come from the east in the first month, it thaws the energy of the frozen earth and ascends, as the weather is still cold, the Yang energy in the body is still insufficient, so, the asthenic Yang energy can only reside in the body slanting to one side, and the syndrome of lameness will occur.

The condition of headache and stiffness of the neck is due to the contention of Yang energies when rising.

The condition of tinnitus is due to the overabundance and the activity of the Yang energy above.

The condition of mania is: the Yang energy is staying above exclusively, unable to combine the Yin energy below, the Yin energy asthenia below and the Yang energy sthenia above will caues mania.

The deafness caused by the Yang energy floating above is due to the up-flaming of the Yang energy and the failure of fire to come down.

The condition of dysphonia is the Yang energy enters into the interior and the Yang energy has already become asthenic.

When one's sexual activities is excessive, the disease of Jueni (coldness of limbs) will occur, it can develope into dysphonia, aphasia and paralysis of limbs. The disease is due to the declination of the kidney which can not be reached by the energy of Shaoyin Channel. When the energy of the Shaoyin Channel is not approaching, the disease of Jueni will occur.

少陽(yáng)所謂心脅痛者，言少陽(yáng)盛也[《太素》“盛”作“戌”，下“盛者”同，孫鼎宜說(shuō)““言’字衍”]，盛者心之所表也，九月陽(yáng)氣盡而陰氣盛，故心脅痛也。所謂不可反側(cè)者，陰氣藏物也[《太素》楊注《圖經(jīng)》“陰氣”上有“九月”二字]，物藏[四庫(kù)本“物藏”作“藏物”]則不動(dòng)，故不可反側(cè)也。所謂甚則躍者，九月萬(wàn)物盡衰，草木半落而墮，則氣去陽(yáng)而之陰，氣盛而陽(yáng)之下長(zhǎng)，故謂躍。

The condition of pain in the heart and hypochondrium of Shaoyang Channel is: the Shaoyang belongs to the ninth lunar month of the year which is the month of Xu. Xu belongs to Shaoyang Channel which is connecting the pericardium, and the onset of the disease will affect the heart channel. In the ninth month, the Yang energy is about to become exhausting, and the Yin energy is becoming more and more prosperous, so, it causes the pains of the heart and the hypochondrium.

The condition of unable to toss and turn when lying of the patient is: the Yin energy become prosperous gradually from the ninth month, all things on earth are going to hide, and they all appear to be calm and motionless, since the energy of the Shaoyang Channel in human body is also affected, so, the patient can not toss and turn.

The condition of the disease of Yao is: in the ninth lunar month, all things begin to decline, the grasses and trees are withered and bare, and the energy of man is turning from Yang to Yin, if the Yang energy is prosperous, it will be active below as well, so it is called the disease of Yao (being active).
