例五：Never give morphine to unconscious patients, patients who have had head injuries, those with respiratory depression or those without pain.

【說明】never =don't 但語氣更強。

【譯文】切不可對失去知覺者、頭部外傷者、呼吸抑制者或無痛覺者使用嗎啡。 

2. 部分否定

英語中 all, both, every, many, much, always, often 等詞與 not 搭配使用時，表示部分否定。通常譯作“不都是”、“不全是”、“不是都”、“不多”、“不?！钡?。

例一 ：Not all the drugs are absorbed in the stomach.

【譯文】并非全部藥物都在胃中被吸收。

例二： Both of the substances do not dissolve in water.

【誤譯】這兩種物質都不溶于水。

【應譯】這兩種物質并不都溶于水。

例三：The invasion of the body by disease-causing organisms does not always lead to the development of an infection.

【誤譯】病原菌侵入機體總是不會引起感染。 

【應譯】病原菌侵入機體并不總是會引起感染。

3. 準否定

除上文提及的否定詞外，英語中還有其他許多表示否定意義的詞和詞組，即所謂的準否定詞。

(1) 表示準否定的名詞有：absence (缺乏、沒有），freedom (沒有），failure (未能），lack (缺少，沒有），inability (不能、無力）等。
