所謂不定數(shù)量是指表示若干、許多、大量、不少、成千上萬等概念的詞組。英語中能夠表示這些概念的詞組主要有以下幾類：

1. 在 number，lot, score, decade, dozen，ten, hundred, thousand, million 等詞后加復(fù)數(shù)后綴-s，這些詞組都有約定俗成的漢譯。如：

* a hundred and one 許多，無數(shù)* a thousand and one 許多，無數(shù)

* dozens of 幾十，幾打                * hundreds of 幾百，成百上千

* hundreds of thousands of 數(shù)十萬* lots of 許多，大量

                                          幾十萬

* millions of 千千萬萬，數(shù)以百萬計(jì)* millions upon millions of數(shù)億，無數(shù)

* numbers of 許多，若干* scores of幾十，許多

* teens of 十幾(13 — 19)* tens of thousands of 數(shù)萬，成千上萬

* tens/decades of 數(shù)十，幾十* thousands of 幾千，成千上萬

* There are millions of cores used in some large core stores.

在ー些大的中心儲(chǔ)存室使用的磁心數(shù)以百萬計(jì)。

* The number of known hydrocarbons runs into tens of thousands.

已知的碳?xì)浠衔锒噙_(dá)幾萬種。

2. 數(shù)字前加above, more than, over, up to等，可以譯為“超過”、“多達(dá)”等。如: 

* The temperature in the furnace is not always above 1,000°C.

爐內(nèi)的溫度并不是毎次都超過1,000°c。
