在一些英語簡單句中，部分詞語隱含著某種假設(shè)，這一點通過謂語動詞的虛擬語氣，加上一定的背景知識就能判斷出來。這種經(jīng)過壓縮的成分亦可通過分譯和擴展來再現(xiàn)。如：

例7  A Britain outside the EU would suffer economically.

英國假如脫離歐盟，將會蒙受嚴重的經(jīng)濟損失。

例8  Kissinger wrote in his syndicated column that an unchecked Saddam would be able to "cause a worldwide economic crisis."

另外，有些英語詞組或短語因其特殊的表達方式，在譯成漢語時往往也需要將其從原句中拆離出來，然后增詞以完善其結(jié)構(gòu)，才能把原義完整、通順地表達出來。如：

把他（的名字）添上，名單就完備了。

（比較：他的增加使名單完整了。）

例10  However,the very size of the country and its own traditions present limitations on the speed with which such work will be completed.
