(On Distention)

黃帝日:脈之應于寸口，如何而脹?岐伯日:其脈大堅以澀者，脹也。黃帝日:何以知臟腑之脹也?岐伯日:陰為臟，陽為腑。

Yellow Emperor asked:"When the pulse condition appears on the Cunkou, what pulse condition indicates the syndrome of distention?" Qibo answered: "When the pulse condition is gigantic, firm and choppy in coming, it is the pulse condition of the syndrome of distention." Yellow Emperor asked: "How to determine the distention of the five solid organs from that of the six hollow organs?" Qibo answered: "When the pulse condition is of Yin, the distention is in the five solid organs, when the pulse condition is of Yang, the distention is in the six hollow organs."

黃帝日:夫氣之令人脹也，在于血脈之中耶，臟腑之內乎?岐伯日:三(一云二字)者皆存焉，然非脹之舍也。黃帝日:愿聞脹之舍。岐伯日:夫脹者，皆在于臟腑之外，排臟腑而郭胸脅，脹皮膚，故命日脹。

Yellow Emperor said: "When one has disorder of vital energy, it will cause one to have the syndrome of distention. I like to know whether the distention is in the channeles or in the viscera?" Qibo answered: "Both the channels and the viscera can retain the distention, but they are not the place where the distention resides." Yellow Emperor said: "I hope to hear about the residence of distention." Qibo said: "Generally, distention is beyond the viscera, it pushes aside the viscera and falls on the location around the chest and hypochondria or falls on the striae of skin to cause distention, and thus, it is called distention."

黃帝曰:臟腑之在胸脅腹裹之內也，若匣匱之藏禁器也，各有次舍，異名而同處，一域之中，其氣各異，愿聞其故。黃帝曰:未解其意，再問[黃帝曰，未解其意，再問:《太素》卷二十九《脹論》無此九字]。岐伯曰:夫胸腹，臟腑之郭也。膻中者，心主之宮城也。胃者，太倉也。咽喉小腸者，傳送也。胃之五竅者，閭里門戶也。廉泉玉英者，津液之道也。故五臟六腑者，各有畔界，其病各有形狀。營氣循脈，衛(wèi)氣逆[衛(wèi)氣逆:《太素》卷二十九《脹論》無此三字]為脈脹，衛(wèi)氣并脈循分為膚脹。三里而瀉[三里而瀉:《甲乙》卷八第三任務“取三里瀉之”]，近者一下，遠者三下，無問虛實，工在疾瀉。

Qibo said: "The chest and abdomen are the outer casings of the viscera; the Tanzhong is the middel palace of the pericardium; the stomach is the granary for storing the water and cereals; the pharynx, throat and the small intestine are the courses for transmissiony the ears, eyes, nose, mouth and tongue are like the doors of the house; the Lianquan point and the Yuying point are the route of the body fluid. Thus, in the five solid and six organs, each has its boundary, and their appearances of affection are different. When the Ying-energy runs along the channel, the distention of channel will occur; when the Wei-energy merges into the channel and runs in the boundaries between muscles, the distention of skin will occur. When treating distention, prick the Sanli point with purging therapy, purge once to the disease newly contracted and purge three times to the protracted disease, the distention can be removed. No matter whether the disease belongs to asthenia or sthenia, apply purge therapy hastily will be effective."
