當然，漢英成語、諺語的對譯可以使譯文地道，但也給譯文帶來了異國情調，或是與譯文民族的歷史、典故相悖，時常使讀者思維混淆不清，感覺有點張冠李戴而讓人莫明其妙。所以不能一味地追求譯文的“地道”，給漢語的英譯文平添上一些盎格魯撒克遜人的民族特色，結果是常常成為畫蛇添足的拙作。梁山泊英雄還是不同于羅賓漢的行俠仗義的，梁山伯與祝英臺畢竟不同于羅密歐與朱麗葉。對這類描寫還得直譯，以保持漢文化的一些民 族特色。如“易如反掌”就可直譯成 as easy as turning over one's hand (palm)，英譯文也形象易懂。這種中國英語完全來自漢譯英的翻譯實踐。下面的直譯例子經過native speakers of English的試讀，都能被他們所理解并接受。

有眼無珠 to have eyes but not see 

熟視無睹 too familiar/close to see 

水中撈月 to catch the moon in the water 

門可羅雀 You can catch sparrows in the doorway.
