2. not 做副詞，否定動詞，如：

Don't expect her to agree.

別指望她會同意。

She might not want to see you,

大概她不想見到你。

not起到否定非謂語動詞（不定式、動名詞、分詞）的作用，如：

Let's not go.

我們不要去吧。

He decided not to do it.

他決定不做那件事。

Would you mind not smoking here?

請你別在此吸煙好嗎？

Not having plenty of time, we took a taxi there.

由于時間不多了，我們坐出租去那兒的。

not還可用在一些固定搭配的短語或結(jié)構(gòu)中，如：

The train was not a whit behind time. ( not a whit)

火車絲毫沒有晚點。

It is not nearly so easy as you think. (not nearly)

這遠(yuǎn)不是你所想的那么容易。

3. never做副詞，否定動詞，如 

He has never seen a plant.

他從來沒有見過這樣的工廠。

never還可以用來否定助動詞、情態(tài)動詞或系動詞，表示強調(diào)，如

Never shall I forget your kindness.

我永遠(yuǎn)不會忘記你的好意。

He never has been and never will be successful.

他沒有，以后也不會成功。 

never可以放在句首，否定祈使句，如；
