英語句子有時很長，各種從句、短語連綿不斷，互相包孕交錯，內(nèi)容自然也相對復雜；但句子再長，其基本結(jié)構(gòu)通常卻是清晰可辨的。因此，在翻譯英語長句時，不必為其表面現(xiàn)象所迷惑，而應首先從語法上分辨出主句和各種從句、短語，分清層次，理清關(guān)系；然后, 根據(jù)主從關(guān)系抓住句子的中心內(nèi)容和各個層次的意思，分析彼此在邏輯上的聯(lián)系；最后， 按照漢語的句子結(jié)構(gòu)和表達習慣，調(diào)整各部分的順序，就能完整、通順地將原義表達出來。 英語長句的翻譯方法主要有三種：順序法、分譯法和逆序法。

1. 順序法

如果英語原句所描述的一系列事件發(fā)生的先后順序、邏輯關(guān)系以及敘述方式與漢語表達習慣基本相同，一般可按原文的順序來譯。在此同時，局部的處理可能要運用分譯法和其他翻譯技巧。如：
