黃帝曰:人之善病消癉者,何以候之?少俞答日:五藏皆柔弱者，善病消癉。黃帝日:何以知五藏之柔弱也?少俞答日:夫柔弱者，必有剛強(qiáng)[剛強(qiáng):周本無此二字]，剛強(qiáng)多怒，柔者易傷也。黃帝日:何以候柔弱之與剛強(qiáng)?少俞答日:此人薄皮膚而目堅(jiān)固以深者，長沖[沖:《甲乙》卷十一第六作“衡”]直揚(yáng)，其心剛，剛則多怒，怒則氣上逆，胸中蓄積，血?dú)饽媪?，臗皮充饑[臗皮充饑:《甲乙》卷十一第六任務(wù)“腹皮充脹”]，血脈不行，轉(zhuǎn)而為熱，熱則消肌膚[膚:《甲乙》卷十一第六無此字]，故為消癉，此言其人暴剛而肌肉弱者也。
Yellow Emperor asked:"How to examine the reasons when one is apt to contract diabetes?" Shaoyu answered: "When one's five solid organs are weak, he is apt to contract diabetes." Yellow Emperor asked: "How can one know the five solid organs of the patient are weak?" Shaoyu answered: "When one's five solid organs are weak, he must be resolute in temperament and often gets angry, and when one has weak solid organs, he is apt to contract diabetes." Yellow Emperor asked: "How to examine the characteristics of weakness and resoluteness?" Shaoyu answered:"The skin of this kind of people is thin, when seeing things, his sight is firm, his eyeballs are sunken deeply with erected eyebows and wide-openned eyes to stare straightly with beaming rays. This kind of people is having a firm character and often gets angry, causing the energy reversing up to acumulate in the chest, in this way, the blood will be retained and impeded, the abdomen will be swelling and the circulation of the blood will be abnormal to cause the syndrome of stagnated heat, when the stagnated heat scorches the muscle and skin, diabetes will occur. This is the case when one is resolute in temperament but weak in the muscle.
黃帝日:人之善病熱者，何以候之?少俞答日:小骨弱肉者[小骨弱肉:按:“弱肉”下脫“色不一”三字]，善病寒熱。黃帝日:何以候骨之小大，肉之堅(jiān)脆，色之不一也。少俞答日:顴骨者，骨之本也。顴大則骨大，顴小則骨小。皮膚薄而其肉無胭，其臂懦懦然，其地色殆然，不與其天同色，污然獨(dú)異，此其候也。然后臂薄者，其髓不滿，故善病寒熱也。
Yellow Emperor asked: "How to examine the reasons when one often contracts cold and heat?" Shaoyu answered:"When ones skeleton is small, his muscle is weak, and the colours in his complexion are different, he is apt to contract cold and heat often." Yellow Eperor asked: "How to examine the large or small size of the skeleton, the firm or weak build of the muscle and whether or not the colours in one's complexion is identical?" Shaoyu answered: "The cheekbone on the face is the foundation of the skeleton of the whole body. When one's cheekbone is large, his skeleton of the body will be large also, when his cheekbone is small, his skeleton of the body will be small also. When one's skin is thin without any protruding muscle, his arms will be weak. When one's colour of the chin is black which is different from the colour of the forehead like being covered with a sluggish and turbid coating causing its colour to be different with that of other parts on the face, the reason of the disease can be estimated. If one's arms and the muscles on the rear of thighs are not plump, his marrow and body fluid must be deficient, and he will contract cold and heat frequently."
黃帝日:何以候人之善病痹者?少俞答曰:粗理而肉不堅(jiān)者，善病痹。黃帝曰:痹之高下有處乎?少俞答日:欲知其高下者，各視其部。
Yellow Emperor asked: "How to examine the reasons when one contracts bi-syndrome often?" Shaoyu answered: "When ones texture of the skin is coarse, and his muscle is not firm and substantial, he will contract bi-syndrome often." Yellow Emperor asked:"When the bi-syndrome occurs, is it certain to occur on the upper part or the lower part of the body?" Shaoyu answered:" When one wants to know whether the bi-syndrome will occur on the upper or the lower part, he should examine the conditions of the five solid organs."
黃帝日:人之善病腸中積聚者，何以候之?少俞答曰:皮膚薄而不澤，肉不堅(jiān)而淖澤[而淖澤:按:“而”下應(yīng)有“不”字]，如此則腸胃惡，惡則邪氣留止，積聚乃傷[傷:《甲乙》卷八第二并作“作”]。脾胃之間，寒溫不次，邪氣稍至;稸積留止，大聚乃起。
Yellow Emperor saked: "How to examine the reasons when one is apt to contract the intestinal mass?" Shaoyu answered: "When one's skin is emaciated, thin and not smooth, and the muscle is not substantial nor moist, it is due to the injury of the stomach and the intestine causing the evil-energy retaining inside, and consequently, the syndrome of mass will occur. If the food is indigested in the stomach and intestine, or the temperature of the food is maladjusted, the evil energy will invade into the spleen and stomach, and its retention in the abdomen will form the serious disease of large mass."
