一般而言，在譯“比”字時(shí)，常見的譯法是在比較級(jí)的形容詞或副詞之后使用than，其實(shí)，“比”字的譯法不只有than，還可憑借下列各種方式來表達(dá)：
1.“比”字譯為形容詞短語
當(dāng)“比”字涉及以-ior 結(jié)尾的詞 superior, inferior, senior, junior, prior, enterior, poslerior 或 preferable，comparahle, proportional, similar 等形容詞時(shí)，“比”字則譯為to。
例1 我方產(chǎn)品比其他公司生產(chǎn)的產(chǎn)品質(zhì)量更優(yōu)。
譯文：Our products are superior to others，in quality.
例2 沒有任何一匹馬的速度能與他的馬的速度相比。
譯文：No horse has a speed comparable to that of his.
例3 產(chǎn)品的價(jià)格與其質(zhì)量成正比。
譯文：The price of a product is proportional to its quality.
2.“比”字譯為動(dòng)詞或動(dòng)詞詞組
常見的這類動(dòng)詞或動(dòng)詞短語有prefer, surpass, excel，match，rival, draw an analogy，compare to，hear comparison with, stand comparison with，give precedence over，have priority over,give sb an advantage over, be equal to 等。
例4 他比同部門的所有員工都優(yōu)秀。
譯文：He excels all the other workers of his unit.
例5 上海比長沙面積大，人口多。
譯文：Shanghai exceeds Changsha in size and population.
例6 這些東西比其他一切都好。
譯文：Such things give precedence over all other things.
