霍譯：
She replied with some bitterness:
'There are quite a few of us you've never seen. I'm not the only one, by any means. How could you have seen me? I've never been allowed to wait on you or show myself in your presence.'
這是小紅回答寶玉的一句話。秋紋、碧痕等不讓她遞茶水，拿東西，使她近不得寶玉跟前，所以寶玉不認識她。作者將“茶水”拆開，鑲嵌入“遞”字，合成“遞茶遞水”;“東西”拆開，鑲嵌人“拿”字，合成“拿東拿西”，這兩個拼集起來的詞，通過延音加力的作用，表現(xiàn)了小紅對寶玉和怡紅院大丫頭們的諷刺意味和事不遂心、懷才不遇的心情。
在這里，我們已經(jīng)注意到，像“遞茶遞水”、“拿東拿西”這樣的詞語，與拆詞鑲嵌之前的“遞茶水”、“拿東西”相比，在修辭效果上類似于反復。也就是說，從某種意義上講，這種辭格是通過延音手段來反復強調(diào)，從而起到加強語勢語氣，突出話語效果作用的。因此，即使不能在譯文中以同類辭格的形式再現(xiàn)原文風貌，也可以通過語意的重疊達到近似的功效。根據(jù)以上分析，楊譯中的fetch與carry，霍譯中的 wait on you 與 show myself in your presence 都有語意重復的意味，都符合原作者的表達初衷。

楊譯：
Fangguan accused her of showing favouritism.
"So I'm to wash with the water your daughter has used, am I?" she complained. "You grab my whole monthly allowance, and on top of taking advantage of me like that expect me to be content with other people's leavings!"
霍譯：
When Parfumee noticed this, she was loud in protest.
'What, give me the water your daughter's washed in? Considering you take the whole of my monthly allowance, I think I deserve better than left-overs!'
