IV.譯文在直譯的基礎(chǔ)上將俗語與具體語境相聯(lián)系。

1)賈蓉原是個(gè)明白人，聽如此一說，便笑道：“我還有個(gè)主意，‘來是是非人，去是是非者’，這事還得我了才好。如今我竟去問張華個(gè)主意，......”（第六十八回）

楊譯：

He said with a smile，“Well，I have another plan. Since I caused the trouble it’s up to me to fix it.I'll go and sound Zhang Hua out..."

霍譯：

‘I've got another idea，'he said,‘Perhaps I should be the one to clear this mess up after all，since I am the one who got us into it I shall ask Zhang Hua straight out what his intentions are...' 

V.成功的意譯。

兩個(gè)譯木中出現(xiàn)了不少成功的意譯，形神兼?zhèn)?，堪稱俗語翻譯中 創(chuàng)造性的典范：

1)興兒道這就是俗語說的‘天下逃不過一個(gè)理字去，了?！保ǖ诹寤兀?/p>

楊譯：

“As the proverb says，” he retorted，“everyone has to listen to reason.”

霍譯：

‘Because Patience has reason on her side，'said Joker.‘It’s like the proverb says："Three men with a carrying-pole can't shift Reason from its place.”'

VI.以詩體形式譯俗語。

1)秋桐便氣的哭罵道：“理那起瞎俞的混咬舌根！我和他‘井水不犯河水’，怎么就沖了他！……”（第六十九回）

楊譯：

Qiutong wept and stormed, “What's all this senseless talk from that blind rascal? I kept as clear of her as well water and river water. How could my horoscope clash with hers?... ”

霍譯：

‘Who pays any attention* to what those beggarly swindlers tell you?’she said. ‘It’s all rubbish anyway. How can I have any influence on her? I have nothing to do with her.

VII.進(jìn)行歸化處理。

這種情況主要是針對(duì)偏重交際翻譯（即所謂Communicative translation)、以忠實(shí)于讀者和便于讀者接受（即所謂reader-based) 為基本原則的霍譯而言的。

1)無奈這些鬼判都不肯徇私，反叱咤秦鐘道：“虧你還是讀過書的人，豈不知俗語說的：‘閻王叫你三更死，誰敢留人到五更’?！?(第十六回）
