Keynote Speech by H.E. Ambassador Liu Xiaoming at the City Week 2018: Harvest More "Golden Fruits" for China and UK through Open and Inclusive Cooperation on Belt and Road Initiative

各國金融界和企業(yè)界的朋友們，
女士們，先生們：
很高興再次出席倫敦“金融城之周”活動(dòng)。
今年恰逢“一帶一路”倡議提出5周年，今天活動(dòng)主題之一就是“一帶一路倡議對中英關(guān)系發(fā)展的影響”，可謂恰逢其時(shí)。我想借此機(jī)會(huì)與在座各位分享一下我的看法。

Ladies and Gentlemen:
It is a real delight to be back at this annual gathering of the City Week.
This year, the City Week Forum focuses on "the Belt and Road Initiative as a vehicle for developing the China-UK relationship". I think that in this fifth year of BRI, this topic is well chosen and very timely.
Today, I would like to share with you how I see this Initiative as a vehicle for developing our very important bilateral relationship.
5年前，習(xí)近平主席提出了“一帶一路”倡議。5年來，“一帶一路”建設(shè)成就斐然，80多個(gè)國家和國際組織同中國簽署了合作協(xié)議，100多個(gè)國家和國際組織積極支持和參與，聯(lián)合國大會(huì)、聯(lián)合國安理會(huì)等重要決議都納入了“一帶一路”內(nèi)容。特別是去年5月，中國成功舉辦“一帶一路”國際合作高峰論壇，來自130多個(gè)國家和70多個(gè)國際組織的嘉賓齊聚北京，共商“一帶一路”合作大計(jì)，簽署了270多項(xiàng)合作成果，掀起“一帶一路”建設(shè)的新高潮。
人們不禁要問，為什么“一帶一路”倡議能在短短5年內(nèi)煥發(fā)出如此強(qiáng)大的生命力？在世界上得到如此廣泛的支持和參與？它的吸引力是什么？我認(rèn)為，原因有四：
Five years ago, President Xi proposed the Belt and Road Initiative. Five years on, this initiative has delivered fruitful results.
Over 80 countries and international organizations have signed cooperation agreements with China.
Over 100 countries and international organizations have voiced their support for this Initiative and become active partners.
This Initiative has been written into important resolutions of the UN General Assembly and the Security Council.
Another highlight is the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation held in Beijing last May. At the Forum, participants from more than 130 countries and over 70 international organizations gathered to share their ideas on the Belt and Road development. A total of over 270 cooperation agreements were signed.
You may wonder:
Why has this Initiative shown such strength and grown so much in such a short time?
Why is it getting such extensive support and broad participation from across the world?
What has made it so popular?
I believe there are four main reasons.
